Flu Vaccinations
2016 WA Influenza Immunisation Program
All government-funded influenza vaccines provided in WA in 2016 will be quadrivalent influenza vaccines. This means that the flu vaccines will contain protection from four different strains of influenza. This is a change to previous government funded flu vaccinations, which were trivalent.
Government-funded influenza vaccines will be available from mid to late April.
We will update our website once these vaccines become available.
The government-funded flu vaccine is free for the following people:
- Pregnant women
- Persons 65 years of age or older
- Children aged 6 months to less than 5 years old
- Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people aged 6 months to less than 5 years or 15 years and older
- Individuals with the following medical conditions:
- Heart disease
- Diabetes
- Severe asthma
- Chronic lung conditions
- Impaired immunity
- Diseases of the nervous system
- Renal disease
- Haematological disorders
The Quadrivalent vaccine is no longer available through any supplier any WA.
Mead recommends that Trivalent is a good alternative. For those patients who are not eligible for the free vaccine you can purchase this Trivalent at the practice on the day of your appointment for $15.00
