Skin Procedures

Mead Medical offers a range of skin procedures, including biopsies and excisions, performed by experienced General Practitioners in a safe, well-equipped clinical environment.

Skin procedures may be recommended following a skin check or GP consultation to investigate or treat suspicious or concerning skin lesions, including moles, cysts, and skin cancers. Each procedure is carefully assessed and planned, with clear explanations provided regarding the indication, process, risks, and aftercare.

Where required, specimens are sent for histopathological analysis, and patients are supported with follow-up appointments to discuss results and any further management. Our doctors prioritise patient comfort, clinical safety, and optimal clinical and cosmetic outcomes.

What to Expect

Before your procedure
You will first have a consultation with your GP to assess the lesion, discuss treatment options, and determine whether a biopsy or excision is appropriate. This appointment allows time to explain the procedure, expected outcomes, and any preparation required.

On the day
Skin procedures are performed under local anaesthetic. The area is numbed to minimise discomfort, and the procedure is carried out in our treatment rooms using sterile technique. Procedure time varies depending on the size and location of the lesion.

After the procedure
You will receive clear aftercare instructions, including wound care, activity restrictions, and signs to watch for. If stitches are placed, a follow-up appointment will be arranged for removal. Histopathology results are reviewed once received, and your GP will discuss these with you and outline any further care if needed – this can usually be done at the same time your stitches are removed however some more complex samples may take time in being reviewed at the laboratory.

Fees

Fees for skin procedures vary depending on the type, size, and location of the lesion, as well as whether histopathology is required. There is generally a standard gap fee and facility fee that is payable on the day of the appointment which will be discussed and consented with you prior to the procedure. The Medicare billing will not be processed until the laboratory has processed the sample. Once those results have been received and discussed, the Medicare fees will be invoiced to you. The full amount of this invoice is payable to Mead Medical and the full amount will be rebated to you after payment. Please refer to our Fees page for detailed information, or contact our reception team if you have any questions.
