Understanding Our Fees
Mead Medical is a mixed billing practice.
The GPs, specialists and allied health professionals consulting at Mead Medical have their own fees and billing arrangements. The amount you pay will depend on the health professional you see, the type and length of your appointment, and the service provided.
To make our fees easier to understand, we have separated the information below by service.
If you are unsure which fee applies to your appointment, please ask our reception team when booking.
Specialist & Allied Health Fees
Mead Medical is also home to specialist and allied health practitioners.
These practitioners have their own fee schedules, which are separate from our standard GP consultation fees.
Where Medicare rebates are available, the amount you receive will depend on the service provided, your eligibility and whether any referral requirements have been met.

Our standard GP consultation fees are shown below.
These fees apply Monday to Friday between 8am and 6pm and Saturday 8am to 1pm.

Which appointment should I book?
A standard appointment is generally suitable for one straightforward health concern.
If you have multiple concerns, a complex issue or think you will need more time with your GP, please book a long appointment.
Your GP will determine the appropriate Medicare item based on the time and complexity of the consultation provided. Your final fee and Medicare rebate may therefore differ from the guide above.

Bulk Billing & Reduced Fees
Mead Medical is a mixed billing practice.
Individual GPs determine their own billing and may offer bulk billing or reduced fees to eligible patients at their discretion.
Please ensure your current Medicare and concession card details are recorded with reception.
Payment & Medicare Rebates
Payment is required at the completion of your appointment.
Where a Medicare rebate applies, we can generally submit your claim electronically after payment. Medicare will pay the rebate into the bank account you have registered with them.
Please note that Medicare rebates cannot be returned directly to credit cards or digital wallets such as Apple Pay.
Outstanding accounts may need to be finalised before further appointments can be booked.
Telephone Consultations
Medicare has specific eligibility requirements for telephone consultations.
In many circumstances, you must have attended the practice for a face-to-face consultation within the previous 12 months to receive a Medicare rebate for a telephone consultation. There are some exceptions to this requirement.
If you are unsure whether you are eligible for a Medicare rebate, please ask our reception team.
Repeat Prescriptions, Referrals & Other Requests
Some GPs may be able to complete certain requests, such as repeat prescriptions or referrals, without an appointment.
Private fees apply to these services and a Medicare rebate is generally not available where a Medicare-eligible consultation has not taken place.
These services are provided at the discretion of your GP. Depending on your request or clinical circumstances, your GP may ask you to book an appointment.

A valid GP referral is generally required to receive a Medicare rebate for a specialist consultation.

Patients with an eligible Mental Health Treatment Plan and appropriate referral may be entitled to a Medicare rebate for psychology services.
Private fees apply and there may be an out-of-pocket cost after your Medicare rebate.

Workers Comp / Motor Vehicle Accidents
Workplace Injuries & Motor Vehicle Accidents
Different fees and billing arrangements apply when your appointment relates to an injury sustained at work or as a result of a motor vehicle accident.
Medicare generally cannot be billed for medical treatment where another party may be responsible for the cost of your care.
Workplace Injuries
Mead Medical charges for workers compensation consultations and services in accordance with the applicable WorkCover WA medical fee schedule.

If you have an accepted workers compensation claim, please provide reception with your claim information, including:
- Your claim number
- Employer details
- Insurer details
- Case manager details, where available
Where a claim has been accepted and appropriate billing information has been provided, we may be able to invoice the insurer directly.
Until your claim has been accepted and appropriate billing arrangements are in place, you may be personally responsible for the cost of your consultation and treatment.
Motor Vehicle Accidents
Separate billing arrangements also apply to medical treatment relating to motor vehicle accidents. We use the WorkCover WA Fee Guide.
Please provide reception with your claim and insurer details where available.
Depending on the status of your claim and the arrangements with the relevant insurer, you may be required to pay for your consultation and seek reimbursement from the insurer.

Procedures
Procedures & Treatment Room Services
Fees for procedures are separate from standard GP consultation fees and vary according to the procedure and treatment required.
Procedural services available at Mead Medical include:
- Skin lesion procedures
- Iron infusions
- Contraceptive implant insertion and removal
- IUD insertion and removal
- Vasectomy
- Other minor procedures
An initial GP consultation may be required to assess whether a procedure is appropriate and to discuss the expected costs.
Where appropriate, you will be provided with an Informed Financial Consent outlining the anticipated costs before your procedure. This allows you to understand the expected fee and any applicable Medicare rebate before proceeding.
Skin Procedures
Skin procedures are privately billed.
If your GP recommends a procedure, you will be provided with an Informed Financial Consent setting out the anticipated costs. This must be signed before the procedure is undertaken.
The procedure fee is payable on the day.
Where tissue is sent to pathology for examination, the appropriate Medicare billing may not be able to be determined until the pathology report has been received.
Once the report is available, your GP will review the result and any applicable billing will then be processed.
Your GP may recommend a follow-up appointment to discuss your results and review the procedure site
Other Fees
Other Fees
Fees may also apply for services that are not eligible for a Medicare rebate, including certain:
- Medical forms and reports
- Commercial and employment medicals
- Insurance paperwork
- Repeat prescriptions or referrals completed without consultation
- Transfer or preparation of medical records
- Non-attendance or late cancellation of appointments
