Vasectomies
Vasectomy – No-Scalpel Technique
Mead Medical offers no-scalpel vasectomies performed by Dr George Eskander at our Kalamunda practice.
Vasectomy is a safe, highly effective and permanent form of contraception for men who are confident they have completed their family or do not wish to have children in the future.
What is a no-scalpel vasectomy?
A no-scalpel vasectomy is a minimally invasive approach to vasectomy. Rather than making a traditional surgical incision, a very small opening is made in the skin to access the vas deferens – the tubes that carry sperm.
The vas deferens are then divided and sealed to prevent sperm from entering the semen.
The procedure is performed under local anaesthetic, generally takes around 20 minutes, and does not require stitches.
Benefits of the no-scalpel technique include:
- A very small opening rather than a traditional incision
- No stitches
- Minimal tissue disruption
- Generally less discomfort and a straightforward recovery
- A quick procedure performed in our Kalamunda practice
- More than 99% effective as a permanent form of contraception
Consultation & procedure
Dr Eskander takes time to ensure patients understand the procedure, expected recovery, potential risks and follow-up requirements before proceeding.
No referral is required.
Patients will have an opportunity to discuss their individual circumstances with Dr Eskander, ask questions and ensure that permanent contraception is the right choice for them.
Depending on individual circumstances and suitability, the procedure may be performed on the same day or scheduled for a separate appointment.
After your vasectomy
It is important to understand that a vasectomy is not immediately effective.
You will need to continue using another form of contraception until follow-up semen testing confirms that the procedure has been successful. Dr Eskander will provide instructions regarding recovery and the timing of your follow-up testing.
Fees
Private fees apply for vasectomy procedures.
