Dr Rod Thelander is an experienced and highly respected General Practitioner who has dedicated his career to delivering comprehensive, compassionate and community-focused medical care. He graduated from the University of Queensland with a Bachelor of Medicine and Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) in 1977 and later completed both the Diploma of Child Health (DCH) and the Diploma of the Royal Australian College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists (DRACOG).

Over the course of his career, Dr Thelander has developed broad expertise across multiple areas of medicine, with particular skills and interest in:

  • Child and women’s health

He is one of Mead Medical’s key procedural GPs, regularly performing minor surgery and anaesthetic-assisted procedures, and is heavily involved in providing palliative and hospital care for our patients. He works closely with Silver Chain and remains a central figure in supporting patients with complex and end-of-life care needs.

Dr Thelander is also deeply engaged in community health projects in Africa. His ongoing involvement reflects his lifelong commitment to improving health equity and supporting vulnerable communities.

In his day-to-day practice, Dr Thelander is known for his warm, down-to-earth approach and his belief in building long-term, trusting relationships with his patients.
